‘The Ballad of Ian Bowyer’ tells the story of a journeyman soccer player who, in the late-1970s, helped transform his team from also-rans to European champions.

He came to play in ’73, a red-haired youth from Ellesmere Port
The first time that I saw him, I knew he was the right sort

The Germans they had Dieter Müller and they had Roger van Gool
